I’m a 40 y.o. dad from Sydney, Australia. I have a wife and 2 Kids (7 and 4). I like a good dad joke, have started to buy those super woolly socks from Big W, prefer functional shoes over Nikes (my wife hates this) and I recently started learning Jiu-Jitsu - which means I get beaten up a few times a week by other dads my age.
I wasn't an alcoholic thankfully, with a life in ruins, but I just felt stuck is the best way I can put it. Stuck in an unfulfilling loop of drinking a bit too much, then being too hungover to really enjoy stuff the next day - like parenting - rinse and repeat. For me, stopping altogether was WAY, way easier than trying to moderate. Moderation is hard.
I'm super passionate about alcohol-free drinks and love what I do. We've been going with ALTD for about 2 years now and even though it's had its ups and downs, it's exciting to be working on something that I believe in. I am motivated as well by the idea that we are contributing I hope at least in some small way to making the world a better place through the normalisation of going alcohol-free sometimes - an actioned largely shunned still, but getting so much better, especially here in Australia with our deep rooted drinking culture.
I make these spirits in small batches, by hand, in a Marrickville distillery that I share with Mobius Distilling.
I hope you enjoy :)
Cheers
Here are some before and after pics of me.
Left - How I look now. Not a professional shot at all. Just hanging out in a dark room as you do
Middle - That 'Robin' jumper isn't mine & I'm pretty sloshed at this point in the evening
Right - A big beer in Paris. That holiday was spent like that or super hungover. Fun for a bit, then not fun for an even longer bit. Drinking just didn't add up for me anymore so I gave it up.
